AN EX-QUEEN LIVES IN SOLITUDE

Press photo with caption dated 1 June 1953: “Egypt’s ex-queen Narriman takes her French poodle “Youyou” for a walk through the gardens of her mother’s quiet villa on the outskirts of Cairo. Narriman likes gardening and spends a good deal of her time tending to flowers. She reportedly spends her day reading, helping with housework and living a quiet, simple life that observers say reflects her nature. She lives in comparative isolation, maintaining contact with the outside world largely through her telephone. Her dress is a sleeveless faille afternoon affair with ample skirt. The colors are a harmonious combination of green, violet and golden yellow.”
